Johnson Road Wastewater Pressure Main

Infrastructure - Johnson Road WWPM 1

About the project:

Porter Consulting Engineers were engaged by the Water Corporation to undertake the detailed design, documentation, reporting and preparing the bid ready documents for replacement of the existing pressure main (DN180 PE) from the Swan River pumping station to CH835m in Maylands.

Project detail:

The existing pressure main required replacement due to frequent failures and wastewater leakage. Porter are Water Corporation pre-qualified engineering consultants for developer constructed headworks, and this allows the appointment of Porter’s to undertake the wastewater pressure main replacement.

Our services complied with the Water Corporation Developer Constructed Headworks Process and included liaison with Authorities, the application of the latest industry standards, and preparation of detailed designs for future civil works.

Key Objectives

  • Replacement of 830m of DN180 including new pumping station pipework, valves and magflows.
  • Maintaining wastewater flows during construction, commissioning and piece up.

Key Challenges/Management Strategies

  • Complex tie in, replacement and upgrade of the pump station site delivery pipework.
  • Documentation of the pressure main in a brownfields area.
  • Consideration to pressure main alignment and profile was needed along all sections to avoid the multitude of obstructions and constraints.
  • Detailing the various connections and input for the installation sequencing and flow management plan to ensure pressure main down time was minimized during construction.
  • Managing the interface with the environmentally sensitive Swan River Foreshore.

The design phase commenced in May 2020 with the bid ready documents issued in November 2020, and construction costs of $690,000.
