Movida Wastewater Pumping Station

Infrastructure - Movida WWPS

About the project:

Midland WWPS 051-09 is a type 40 pumping station with a 1,060m long Ø180PE pressure main which services the 700 lot Movida residential development in Midvale.  Porter Consulting Engineers were commissioned by another consulting engineer, on behalf of the developers and the Water Corporation, to undertake the Scoping Report, Engineering Summary Report, Detailed Designs, Tendering and Construction Administration.

The Scoping Report commenced early in 2016 with construction completed in September 2017.

Project detail:

Shane Highman was project lead and completed the Scoping Report, Engineering Summary Report, detailed designs, tender and construction administration. Dane Coombs was lead designer and completed all drafting include the plans required for the Scoping Report and Engineering Summary Report along with all of the detailed designs.  Kieran Conama provided Construction Administration assistance including inspections, testing and review of quality documents. Various members of our team were on site during construction to witness the works as part of our continuing professional development.

Due to the developer’s tight timeframes, the ESR and designs were fast tracked to ensure the deep infrastructure (wet well, incoming sewer and storage tanks) were installed prior to the 2017 winter. We were able to obtain early approvals and contractor engagement to mitigate project risk and costs.

The pumping station site is adjacent to two natural water courses which presented storage, environment and heritage constraints. We were able to position the required infrastructure (tanks, wells, pits and pressure main) within the pumping station site whilst complying with the Water Corporation standards. Trenchless techniques were specified at the Woodbridge Creek and Morrison Road pressure main crossings. This assisted in the environmental/heritage approvals and removed road closure and traffic management issues as the Morrison Road crossing (approximately 100m east of Roe Highway intersection).  The varying Guildford Formation ground conditions introduced complexities during the design along including flotation assessment and consideration to construction techniques.
