About the project:

This project undertaken by Porter Consulting Engineers for the City of Belmont included the design of a bicycle at grade link to an existing underpass at the end of Surrey Road, which went under Great Eastern Highway as part of the Department of Transport’s Safe Active Streets Program.

Project detail:

Michael Cook undertook the design and construction administration for the Principal Shared Path which links Leach Highway to Great Eastern Highway, via Tomato Lake and Surrey Road.

Our engagement included preparation of detailed design for the underpass upgrade including site works, services location, retaining walls, paths and stairs. The project involved liaison with the City and Main Roads WA regarding path design requirements and extensive landscaping undertaken by Ecoscape to soften the impact of the retaining walls and garden beds surrounding the site.

The upgrade to the existing infrastructure has provided an improved access for cyclists and pedestrians as well as an aesthetic improvement to the local area. Further, the City installed a bicycle maintenance station at the top of the ramp to provide service facilities for cyclists.
