Consult Australia 2021 Small Firm of the Year award and Small Business Excellence award

Last night was one of, if not our firm’s proudest achievement to date.  We are excited to share that after being announced as a finalist in Consult Australia’s Excellence Awards program, that at their OneConsult 2022 Gala Awards for Excellence Dinner and 70th Birthday celebration, Porter Consulting Engineers were announced as the National winner of the 2021 Small Business Excellence Award and then blown away to also receive the overall 2021 Small Firm of the Year.

The Small Business Excellence award recognises members with less than 20 employees who have demonstrated excellence through innovation, collaboration, client engagement, people and culture or in the conduct of their business operations.  The Small Firm of the Year award recognises the sole firm with less than 20 employees  with an nomination in any of the 2021 Awards for Excellence categories considered to be of the highest standard by an independent judging panel.

Brad Harris accepted both awards on behalf of the entire Porters team at the ceremony in Sydney.  From where we first started as a company of 2 employees back in 1995 (thank you David and Pam Porter), it has been extremely humbling to be recognised as the best small consulting business in Australia over many other deserving firms especially following the unbelievable challenges faced over the past 2 years during the ongoing global pandemic.

Taking out the win in the Small Business Excellence category solidifies our company’s reputation as leaders within the WA engineering community, where we are making an impact on local communities to improve liveability, sustainability, productivity and road safety.  This involvement allows us to continue to be at the forefront of major project delivery and innovative design projects such as the Cecil Avenue streetscape upgrade in Cannington, The Amble Estate in Girrawheen and the $20M replacement of the Wastewater and Drainage Pump Stations at Morley Galleria Shopping Centre.  Our involvement from project inception through to design, approvals and construction completion is evidence of the highly collaborative nature of our small professional team and the business.

Congratulations to each and every staff member, both past and present for both award wins and a big thank you to both Consult Australia and the judging panel for the recognition and to our Clients who make our entire business possible, without all of these elements our award wins would not have been possible.

Ultimately, it is our strong industry involvement and representation on various professional organisations and advocacy for better conditions and standards for our industry on behalf of all members, over many years that helped in achieving this business excellence.  This is something unique to a small engineering business and sees us punch well above our body weight in relation to industry representation plus sets us apart from other small engineering businesses in the amount of time and energy that we give back to the industry to improve conditions and technical standards for all parties.

It is ultimately through our advocacy and industry participation in professional associations where we give back to our professional community for the benefit of all organisations.  This has been a significant part of our company culture and ethics since formation and continues to be an important ingredient in the way we operate our business for the improvement of the industry as a whole and for our team.
