Southern Link Road, Cannington – Stage 2
September 13, 2019
Included in the City of Canning’s Canning City Centre Regeneration program is the construction of a new road link called Southern Link Road that will ultimately extend eastward from Liege Street at the Grose Avenue intersection to connect with Gerard Street at the Lake Street intersection.
Porter Consulting Engineers (PCE) has been working with the City of Canning to provide the City with road design and traffic/civil engineering input to the new Southern Link Road project.
Stage 1 of Southern Link Road comprised of upgrading the single lane roundabout at the intersection of Liege Street/Grose Avenue to a dual-lane roundabout. Construction of the dual-lane roundabout upgrade work was completed in January 2017.
Stage 2 of Southern Link Road is the construction of the new road link from Grose Avenue to Grey Street and this work is nearing completion with the new road link expected to open in October 2019. Drainage, road pavement, surfacing and kerbing are complete with street lighting to be completed in September along with finishing works including the median, topsoil and footpath.
The new road link is expected to provide a safer route for motorists in and around the area adjacent to Bunnings, Greyhounds WA, Baseball WA and the southern access points to Carousel Shopping Centre. It also accommodates improvements for cycling and pedestrians from the surrounding residential areas.
PCE was pleased to be involved in the project that is helping improve traffic movement in the growing Canning City Centre area.
